Back in 1985, I had the chance to work on a specia Back in 1985, I had the chance to work on a special project for SIMMONS DRUMS—a book/catalog called “25 Drummers Who Electrified the World”. It was my first time photographing drummers, but definitely not my last. Since then, I’ve gone on to shoot for just about every major drum company and have photographed over 100 drummers (and counting!). That project was a dream come true. I got to meet and shoot some of my favorite drummers of the time. It was also my first time traveling for work—heading to Nashville to shoot Larry Londin and Tommy Lee, then to New York City for Omar Hakim, Peter Erskine, and others. But the highlight? Flying to the UK to photograph my drum hero, Phil Collins. Truly unforgettable. To top it all off, I celebrated the project with my first-ever exhibition at Photo Impact B&W Lab in Los Angeles on November 23rd, 1985. It was an incredible night—friends, drummers, and fans all came out to support. Looking back, this project makes me smile. I met my drum heroes, traveled the world, captured portraits I’m still proud of, and built lasting relationships. I saw The Beach Boys way back in 1977 at the Cow P I saw The Beach Boys way back in 1977 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. It was everything — pure magic. They played all the hits I grew up on, and I loved every second. Fast forward to March 3rd, 1995… I had the honor of photographing Brian Wilson and Mike Love for Entertainment Weekly at the Malibu Beach Inn. The shoot lasted a couple of hours, but for me, it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment. I told them how I saw them live in 1977, how I listened every single record as a kid, and how thankful I was to be in that room with them — not just meeting them, but photographing them for a Entertainment Weekly. They were both gracious, kind, and effortless to shoot. They made me look good, and Entertainment Weekly loved the photos! It was a perfect day and shoot. One I’ll never forget.
